Over two years ago, I fell in love. I didn’t know it quite yet, but I did. I was dating another boy, my best guy friend, who I had always imagined being with. However, I soon found myself in a relationship that I was less than happy with and a boy I couldn’t stop thinking about. I wanted to be around him, I wanted him to talk to me outside of classes, I just wanted him to myself.
Then, exactly one year ago today, that boy finally asked me out on a date. Mind you, it wasn’t some cheesy way of asking me, he wanted to “have a thing with me”. I will never forget how awkward he was. But after that, I couldn’t get the smile off of my face.
That weekend, he took me out. We grabbed drinks at Caribou and…brace yourselves…we saw Kung Fu Panda 2..in 3D. I still remember how he tried to move the armrest so he could hold my hand. And I will never forget the way his hand fit perfectly in mine.
Today, Cole, that very same boy, is the boy I love. The one who makes me laugh when I’m mad, who simply listens when I need someone there the most, someone who is just as sassy and sarcastic as I am, and the one who holds my heart. We sit at coffee shops and laugh, stick our feet in The Falls, play board games, and make food for each other. Before him, I had no idea what it felt like to be so sure about someone, no idea that I would ever need someone so much as I need him. I enjoy every moment I’m with him, and I think that’s what I’ve always needed.
So, I wanted to thank you, Cole. Thank you for being so patient (even though you’re one of the most impatient people I know); thanks for all of the laughs, hugs, and kisses; for all of the kind words that you say to me; and most of all, thank you for falling in love with a goofy girl like me. I love you more and more everyday. And you may not see this, but I appreciate you far more than you know.
